The MxActivitySensor is an activity-controlled, software-based image analysis function for detecting movement of people and objects in a monitored area (full image or section). Unlike existing video motion sensors, which detect all events in the defined motion windows, the MxActivitySensor is very easy to configure and delivers reliable results, even in applications with large amounts of external interference. For example, the camera now distinguishes between movements of vehicles, people or objects that trigger an alarm and movements that are not relevant for alarms, such as shadows, changes in illumination, trees swaying in the wind or rain directly at the lens.

What Is Detected?
The sensor detects objects or people that cross the defined monitored area or move toward or away from the camera. The MxActivitySensor is available free of charge via a simple firmware update for current MOBOTIX cameras.

Why Use High-Resolution Systems?

The higher the resolution, the more details are in an image. Using traditional (analog) technology, a live image has no more than 0.4 megapixels and a recorded image only has 0.1 megapixels (CIF). On the contrary, a MOBOTIX camera with 6 megapixels records around 50 times more detail. As a result, larger image areas with up to 360° panorama are possible, thus reducing the number of cameras and therefore the costs. For example, four lanes of a gas station can be recorded using one MOBOTIX camera instead of four conventional cameras

Disadvantages Of The Centralized Standard Solution

Usually cameras only supply the images while the processing and recording is done later on a central PC using video management software. This traditional centralized structure is unsuitable for high-resolution video systems, since it requires not only high network bandwidth, but also needs enormous PC processing power to support several cameras. An HDTV MPEG4 film already puts considerable strain on a PC, so how can it be expected to process dozens of high-resolution live cameras? Traditional centralized systems are therefore neither cost-efficient nor suitable due to the large number of PCs required for high-resolution systems.

The Decentralized MOBOTIX Concept

Unlike other systems, the decentralized MOBOTIX concept incorporates a high-speed computer and, if necessary, a digital memory (SD card) for long-term recording in every camera. The PC is now used only for viewing, not for analysis or recording. As a result, MOBOTIX cameras can record events even without a running PC and digitally record videos with sound for archiving purposes.

Cost Benefits

MOBOTIX video solutions generally require:

• Fewer cameras due to the more accurate detail of wide-angle images with megapixel technology,

• No PCs/DVRs, because around 40 cameras can store high-resolution video with sound efficiently on a single Network Attached Storage Server or no NAS at all when recording on the camera's digital storage (Micro SD card),

• Lower network bandwidth, because everything is processed in the camera itself and the high-resolution images therefore do not have to be constantly transferred for analysis.

Robust And Low-Maintenance

MOBOTIX cameras do not require any lens or positioning motors. Without any moving parts, they are so robust that maintenance is reduced to a minimum. The unique temperature range from  (-40° to +140°F) is achieved without heating or fan at only 3 watts power consumption. Since no PC hard disk is required for recording, there are no parts that wear out in the entire video system.

There are no software or licensing costs with MOBOTIX, because the software is always supplied within the camera - for an unlimited number of cameras and users.
