Exposure
Optimization And
Reduced Image Noise
For 6 MP Cameras (MxLEO:
Lowlight Exposure
Optimization)
MxLEO is an
integral part of the
free firmware
update and offers
four significant
advantages:
Advantage 1:
Reduced Motion
Blurring
The improved light
sensitivity of the
new MOBOTIX 5
megapixel sensors
offers notably
shorter exposure
times than the
previous 1.3 and 3.1
MP sensors. A new
exposure and image
optimization program
exclusively
developed by MOBOTIX
for these 6MP
sensors (color and
B/W): MxLEO
(Lowlight Exposure
Optimization)
ensures
significantly more
detailed images,
particularly in poor
lighting conditions
(<< 25 Lux).
Examples of such
environments at
night include
camera-monitored
doors, car parks or
places where there
is only dim outdoor
lighting (around 10
to 25 Lux). Another
example would be a
building (hallway,
office, warehouse)
where only the
emergency light is
on after hours
(around 5 Lux). The
motion blurring that
is usually caused by
the longer exposure
times needed in the
dark is
significantly
reduced, and image
details such as
faces and license
plates are easier to
identify than
before.

Advantage 2:
Reduced Image Noise
The hardware-based
noise filter built
into the 6 MP
cameras further
increases image
quality for night
and dusk recordings
(=> less image
noise, fewer false
alarms, lower
storage and
bandwidth
requirements).
Advantage 3:
Application-Oriented
Exposure Setting
Security
applications usually
need all of the
relevant image
details of moving
persons and objects
to be as clear and
undistorted as
possible, especially
in videos with high
frame rates. The
best way to ensure
this is to reduce
exposure times. This
can lead to a
situation where less
relevant areas of
the image have
sub-optimal
lighting, which is
not important for
this type of
application.
However, if the
camera is used as a
high-resolution
webcam (for example,
to record a new
panoramic image for
a hotel website
every minute), the
objects or persons
moving through the
image area are less
important than the
image as a whole,
which should be lit
as evenly as
possible, which in
turn requires longer
exposure times after
dark. For this
reason, users now
have the option to
adjust the exposure
settings (new,
extended exposure
program with values
from "-2" to "+5",
default is "0") or
use the "Image
Program" menu to
select preconfigured
image settings at
the click of a
mouse. These are
designed for a range
of applications,
including "webcam".
Advantage 4:
Optimized
MxActivitySensor
Recording Results
MxActivitySensor
video clips also
benefit from
significantly
improved quality
thanks to MxLEO’s
reduced motion
blurring and
decreased image
noise.
